The domain join cannot be completed because the SID of the domain you attempted to join was identical to the SID of this machine.

I had prepared a virtual machine with windows server 2012R2 operating system and created multiple copies of that virtual machine to use further for other applications. From that multiple copies, I used one virtual machine for Active Directory (MyRetail.com) and one for the Application Server. When I tried to join the application server virtual machine to a domain controller (MyRetail.com) it got failed with below error.

Error :

As per the error, I understand that SID is same in the application and active directory servers. That’s the reason application server not connected to Active Directory.

Solution:

Resetting SID in the application server resolved the issue.

How to Reset SID?

  1. Click on start button and Type ‘RUN’
  2. In Run Prompt type ‘%WINDIR%\system32\sysprep’
  3. Double click on ‘sysprep’ and check ‘geberalize’ checkbok as per below image.

  4. After some time server will be restart automatically.

Note: Once the application server automatically restarted network adapter settings, hostname, username, password and other configuration will be reset. After SID reset done, I could able join application server to active directory.
